Causes of diarrhea and constipation during menstruation

what are the causes of diarrhea and constipation during menstruation?
Menstruation, which comes every month, sometimes not only cause stomach cramps, but also causes digestive problems such as diarrhea or constipation.
Digestive problems that arise, such as diarrhea, constipation or abdominal bloating during menstruation is very closely related. This is because when menstruation occurs in the case of disruption of estrogen and progesterone levels are low. This hormonal disorder triggers all the symptoms that occur during menstruation.
The hormone progesterone increases after the fertile period (ovulation) and decreased gradually to a low level to trigger menstruation. After menstruation is triggered, the chemicals will be released by the body called prostaglandins that cause the uterus to contract to remove the lining of the uterus.
According to MedicineNet, excessive concentrations of prostaglandins can cause cramping in the uterus and discomfort. This high level of prostaglandins causes an increase in smooth muscle contraction and motility of the digestive tract that can cause diarrhea, constipation, flatulence and other digestive disorders.
Women experience different periods of constipation or diarrhea, since some occur before menstruation and ended the first day of menstruation. But others happen during menstruation until the third day. This is due to differences in levels of hormones in the body of every woman.
Another study shows women who have irritable bowel syndrome have a greater chance of experiencing indigestion during menstruation compared with women without any problems in his intestines.
There are several things you can do to reduce the symptoms that occur before or during menstruation, such as changing your diet by eating plenty of fiber, grains and vegetables, limit consumption of salt, sugar, caffeine and spicy foods, in addition to completely avoid alcohol.
Also try to manage and reduce stress with relaxation techniques, yoga or meditation and exercise. Because if the level of stress is reduced, it will help the digestive system to become more fluid, so that it can reduce digestive problems before or during menstruation.
